Environmental
We have long represented both individuals and business clients for all their environmental needs. Our experienced environmental attorneys offer creative, client-centered representation, in the full range of environmental matters. We are committed to thoroughly investigating the law and facts in each case and developing the most effective strategy to serve our client.
Our environmental services include:
Pollution Claims Against Industrial Neighbors
For decades, our environmental attorneys have led the field—in Vermont and beyond—to ensure that those responsible for harming Vermont’s environment are held to account. On behalf of property owners across Vermont, we have successfully battled such industrial giants as International Paper Company, General Electric, and Uni-First Corporation, as well as local gas stations, landfills, and dry cleaners, whose toxic chemicals have caused harm to our clients and diminished their property values. We have litigated landmark environmental cases helping to establish and strengthen Vermont’s environmental laws, while obtaining fair compensation for our clients in state and federal courts, including the Vermont Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court.
Outside of Vermont we have used these same skills and experience to assist across the country, from New York to Alaska, including representing citizens in bringing and successfully concluding sophisticated class action lawsuits against both Fortune 500 and international companies.
Zoning, Permitting & Land Use
Our environmental team has deep experience navigating local zoning laws, Vermont’s Act 250 permitting process, and other statewide environmental regulations, assisting both our commercial and private property-owning clients before local and state regulatory bodies, as well as in Vermont’s Environmental Court and the Vermont Supreme Court.
Farms & Agriculture
For decades we have represented Vermont farms and farmers. We have successfully litigated a variety of environmental matters, including stray voltage, farm runoff, defective seed quality, failed insemination, faulty manure banks, and other nuisance and product liability claims.
