Women Attorneys of Langrock Sperry & Wool Predominant in 2017 Best Lawyers in America® List

The women attorneys of Langrock Sperry & Wool, LLP were predominant among the female Vermont attorneys recognized by The Best Lawyers in America^® in its 2017 “Women of Influence” listings.

Of the 33 separate types of law listed, Langrock women were named in 14 categories, or more than 42% of the total. And of the 53 individual listings, Langrock women occupied 20 spots, or more than 37% of the total. In all, six different female Langrock attorneys were recognized by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession: Alison J. Bell, Ellen Mercer Fallon, Emily J. Joselson, Susan M. Murray, Lisa B. Shelkrot, and Sarah Gentry Tischler. In addition, Best Lawyers named Lisa B. Shelkrot the 2017 “Lawyer of the Year” for Construction Litigation.

In contrast, the firm with the second-most recognitions was named in only eight categories, with nine individual listings, for three different attorneys.

This recognition is timely, as the women attorneys of Langrock Sperry & Wool are engaged in a year-long initiative throughout 2017, sponsoring events bringing women across the state together to share experiences and knowledge on a variety of meaningful matters. The next event in the Women’s Initiative is an employment law seminar on May 17, “How to Keep Your Business Out of Employment Law Trouble”—4:30-6:30 at Aiken Hall, Champlain College.

Best Lawyers has published its list for over three decades, earning the respect of the profession, the media, and the public as the most reliable, unbiased source of legal referrals. Its first international list was published in 2006 and since then has grown to provide lists in over 65 countries. Best Lawyers’ “Women of Influence” awards are the result of the first-ever collaboration between the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law and Best Lawyers. Coalition members in both private and general practice submitted nominations, with each nominee named for her outstanding work in her area of expertise. Best Lawyers editors evaluated ballots and selected winners.
