Otero-Weaver and Patton Present Open Seminar on New Employment Laws
LS&W attorneys Wanda Otero-Weaver and Michele Patton will present an educational seminar to the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, titled “How Will New Changes in Employment Laws Affect Your Business?” on Wednesday, November 16, 8:00 – 9:30 a.m., at the Ilsley Library Community Room in Middlebury, Vermont. They will provide information on the new regulations for overtime and exempt employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which go into effect on December 1, 2016. They will also provide information regarding updates to the rules and guidelines regarding family and medical leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act and disabilities under the Americans with Disability Act. On a state level, they will provide information regarding Vermont’s new paid sick leave law, which goes into effect on January 1, 2017, and efforts by the Vermont Department of Labor to address the misclassification of employees and independent contractors.
