Biography

Eric has extensive experience handling labor and employment law matters and general commercial litigation. In his labor and employment practice, he handles all types of disputes – lawsuits in state and federal courts, arbitrations (AAA, FINRA, and privately arbitrated matters), and government enforcement agency proceedings (before the National Labor Relations Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Vermont Attorney General’s Office, New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights, and the Departments of Labor for the United States, Vermont, and New Hampshire).

From handling wrongful termination claims to resolving grievances and labor disputes, Eric deploys his skills and experience to develop an effective litigation strategy to accomplish his client’s goals, and then manages the case to successful resolution through summary judgment, trial, arbitration award or mediated disposition.

In addition, Eric counsels employers of all types and sizes (private and public, unionized and union-free, start-ups and growing businesses) in establishing sound employment practices and policies. He also works with Human Resources professionals to handle the day-to-day employment matters that routinely arise in the workplace.

Eric also handles emergency proceedings, such as petitions for injunctive relief (including actions to enforce covenants not to compete, to protect trade secrets, and to preserve labor peace).

As a commercial litigator, Eric represents businesses and individuals in a broad range of disputes, including claims of breach of contract, fraud, unfair trade practices, and business torts.

Eric joined Langrock Sperry & Wool, LLP in 2019, after many years of practice at another major law firm, and at his own firm. He has contributed to many legal publications: Contributing Editor, Covenants Not to Compete, A State-By-State Survey, BNA / ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law (9th Ed., 2013 and Supplement 2014); Contributing Editor, Employee Duty of Loyalty, A State-By-State Survey, BNA / ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law (5th Ed., 2013 and Supplement 2014): Contributing Editor, Trade Secrets, A State-By-State Survey, BNA / ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law (4th Ed., 2011 and Supplement 2014); Contributing Editor, Tortious Interference in the Employment Context, A State-By-State Survey, BNA / ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law (4th Ed. 2014); and Co-author, Vermont Chapter, 50-State Survey of Employment Defamation and Privacy Law, Libel Defense Resources Center (1998 & Supplement 2002).

Eric lives in Shelburne with his wife and two cats. When at home, he can usually be found in his shop building and repairing guitars, banjos, and other stringed things, or in his music room making loud noise.
